DC Traffic Sucks, but These Tips Can Help You Cope

 Did you know that the average Washingtonian spends nearly 70 hours a year stuck in traffic? That's like watching all 10 seasons of Friends almost 3 times! It's no wonder we're all so stressed out all the time.

But even though DC traffic sucks, there are still ways to make your commute a little bit better. Here are some things you can do to cope with the never-ending traffic jams:

1. Make friends with your fellow commuters.
Whether you're carpooling or taking public transportation, chances are you'll be seeing the same people day in and day out. So why not strike up a conversation and get to know them? You never know, you might just make a new friend or two.

2. Bring along some entertainment.
Whether it's a good book, your favorite podcast, or even just a crossword puzzle, having something to keep you occupied can help make the time pass a little bit faster. Trust us, you'll be glad you have something to keep your mind off of the fact that you're stuck in traffic.

3. Use the time to plan your day.
If you're someone who likes to be productive, use your commute as time to plan out your day. This way, when you finally make it into the office, you'll be one step ahead of the game. And if things happen to go wrong during the day, at least you'll have already accomplished something!

4. Take some deep breaths and relax.
We know it's easier said than done, but try to take some deep breaths and relax while you're stuck in traffic. After all, there's nothing you can do about it except sit there and wait it out. So might as well try to make the best of it, right?

DC traffic sucks, there's no doubt about that. But even though it may seem like there's nothing we can do to fix the problem, there are still ways to make our commutes a little bit better.
